Do Optimistic People Have More Hope than Pessimistic People or is Hope Equal for All?
On our new podcast episode “Tapping into Hope” we ended by questioning each other if optimistic people are more hopeful than pessimistic people. I did some research on the subject and the answers I found actually depended on whether the writer or scientist himself or herself was an optimistic or pessimistic person.
I concluded it does not matter if you are an optimist or pessimist. Hope is not optimistic. Hope is not pessimistic. An optimistic person can have a great attitude and have a wonderful outlook on everything they do. A pessimistic person can believe they have a good attitude with a realistic outlook on everything they do.
The power of hope when applied to an optimistic person or a pessimistic person is equal. If both types of people go buy a lottery ticket at the store, the optimistic person knows the chances of winning are slim. The pessimistic person also knows the chances of winning are slim. However, both types of personalities have hope that they may win the lottery or they would not have bought the ticketing in the first place.
How much hope is not a question. Hope is hope. The only component both types of personalities MUST have is faith in God. No faith no hope. So in my own conclusion it does not matter if you are an optimist or pessimist. If you believe in God and have faith in Jesus, you have hope. The Bible is full of scriptures on hope. One of my favorite Bible verses is:
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Our Spiritual exercise for this past week on our podcast was to grab your journal or iPhone and write down something you are hopeful for and pray for it by asking God to take that hope, make it happen and BELIEVE.
This is a prayer that the Holy Spirit gave to me to keep hopeful through good times and bad. I would like to share it with you in hopes you find it comforting!
A Hopeful Prayer
Thank you for seeing me through my day. I know you have all my days planned and thank you for your love and protection. Help me be hopeful, faithful and thankful through all situations. I trust in feeling thankful and joyful in happy times. Steadfast and thankful through trying times. Thank you for hold my hand and constantly reminding me that you are right beside me. Father, because your love is so powerful, unconditional, and faithful toward me I trust I will never loose hope in all things.
Here's to Hope!
