The Season of Lent
As we enter this season of Lent, we are encouraged to give something up. I spent Ash Wednesday in reflection about what I should give up- candy, sugar, ice cream… In prayer, God whispered to me the words of Jesus, “What goes into someone's mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them" (Matthew 15:11, NIV). It clicked! God desires for me to look not at the external, tangible things, but to my invisible, internal spirit. Instead of taking giving up a food this season, I have decided to focus on my words, replacing negative or unkind words with encouragement and kindness. By focusing on my words in this season of Lent, I hope to grow spiritually, enhance my relationships, and develop my listening skills. I pray to mirror Christ in my word choice. If you are like me struggling on what to give up this Lent season, I encourage you to look inside your heart and discover what God is asking you to focus on. Over the next 40 days, foster intentional focus on that area and pray for God’s guiding hand to help you become more Christ-like.
May the Lord Bless You and Guide You,
