Your Challenge: What Makes Me Happy Today?
Albert Einstein once said, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”
What exactly is gratitude and how does gratitude help us become spiritually fit? The Webster Dictionary says gratitude is being thankful and being thankful is being pleased for something or someone. Being thankful is important to human emotions. It brings stability, satisfaction and you realize you can’t take things for granted.
If you are not thankful for anything in your life, chances are you may feel miserable. This is why it is important to be thankful. Being thankful brings great days to your life.
The Bible says over and over that giving thanks to God is really the first step in being a Christian. If you show no gratitude or thankfulness in ANY areas of your life than the likelihood of pleasing God is next to nothing. I like that thankfulness is used simultaneously with gratitude. Gratitude is feeling grateful and being thankful. If you look at the root word for gratitude it is grate derived from the latin word grace. Grace means a gift from heaven and God’s blessings.
How cool is that?
Thessalonians 5:18 Says give thanks in all circumstances: for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
When you become busy in your daily life or become preoccupied with problems, your job, family, or yourself that is all you can think about. Busy and stressed does not equate to being thankful. How can you be thankful for the stress you are feeling? In fact stress and problems once they start just keep multiplying. Have you ever noticed that? Your emotions find one thing after another to stress over and get hung up on and before you know it you slip into a survival mode.
Maybe you have had so many bad things happen to you that being thankful is the last thing you want to think about. Maybe you really never thought about the importance of being thankful. Or occasionally you think about how thankful you are. Thanksgiving is a great holiday when people think about being thankful. However, thinking about thankfulness is different from practicing thankfulness.
