Why Talking to God is so Important
Why do some people find it difficult to talk to God? Closing your eyes and praying as you lay your head down at night is not so hard. When your church leader asks you to bow your head to say a prayer at church that is not hard either.
What about holding a conversation with God? Can you talk to God like He is right beside you as a friend, mentor, and a father? Can you talk to God to help your peace of mind, boast your confidence, tell Him your problems, or most importantly tell Him how thankful you are?
Our days are busy and sometimes you can’t think straight with all the stuff you have to get done. I know this too. I am a wife, a mom of seven, homeschool mom, and have my own little business that I think relaxes me. But do you know what I discovered? Talking to God is the best and most refreshing conversation I can have. This is not praying! Talking to God our Father is different then praying to Him. I am saying you can have a full blown conversation with God! He is lovely, awesome, and everything. He hears you, answers you, and is totally delighted that you came to Him!
Holding a conversation with God can be difficult for some people to do because some feel talking to God is intimate and private. When you pray it is. You have heard of creating your own “War Room” for prayer.
And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. (Matthew 6:5-6)
However, when you turn to God to talk, it is different. I am not saying pushing your cart through the grocery store that you have a full blown, out loud conversation with God. That may be weird, but you can talk to God in your head while you are buying butter and milk. I converse with God walking outside, however, my favorite spots are in the car or laundry room.
God does not require us to grow into a different version of ourselves in order to gain access to Him (Micah 7:18-19).
God wants a relationship with you. He created you in his image. God is right here and listening. If you never have had a conversation with God you are missing out! Start today! Don’t stop praying, but start talking too. You will be surprised how your spirit will become stronger. You will start to hear that tiny spirit voice as God talks back to you!
